Reverend Derrick R. Dumas hails from Morristown, New Jersey.
He’s the son of Mr. & Mrs. Melvin and Odetta Dumas. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Morristown NJ, for seventeen years; and served as an Associate Minister under the leadership of Reverend Dr. Jerry M. Carter Jr., Senior Pastor.

He was installed as the eighth Pastor of First Baptist Church in February 2011. Under his leadership, First Baptist Church is committed to honoring God through our commitment to Discovering God’s Purpose, Developing God’s People while Depending on God’s Power.

Rev. Dumas received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Farleigh Dickinson University. He received a Master of Divinity degree (cum laude) at Drew Theological Seminary. Rev. Dumas also holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Drew Theological Seminary.

While at Drew University, Rev. Dumas was the recipient of the Helen Sterett Scholarship award for academic achievement and he participated in the Executive Scholars Program in the Silberman School of Business. In addition to numerous academic honors and awards, Rev. Dumas is a recent recipient of the Morris County NAACP Leadership award for outstanding leadership in community. He currently serves as First Vice-Moderator of the Middlesex Central Baptist Association of New Jersey.

He has been married to Cheron Dumas for more than 30 years. They have three wonderful children Erricka, Tressy, and Aubree; and two grandchildren Jayde and Nyan.
